5.Iris Computers:Upcountry All The Way

Aggressively expanding in the B and C-class cities held this national level distributor in good stead. Coupled with its strategy to increase its product line, Iris managed to get a good mindshare among the channel

Touching a turnover of Rs 572 crore, Iris Computers continued its presence in the Silver Club for the last eight years. What helped it in this endeavor is the expansion of its product line, increasing the number of its branches and widening its channel base.

The major tools that helped Iris achieve this milestone were its aggressiveness to expand across the country and provide maximum support to the channel partners. It established its presence in 24 cities and now plans to take it to 30 cities by the end of this year. The newly opened offices are in cities like Jammu, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Surat and Madurai.

Iris gets 30 percent of its business from B and C-class cities and they are also planning to add more branches to have better reach in these unexplored regions. This will subsequently mean more number of partners to its existing network of 1,400 partners.

Last year, it partnered with HCL Peripherals and Raritan. Iris is strong in the northern part of the country that brings in 50 percent of its business. This is followed by south that makes up for 28 percent of the total business.

Among the prominent orders is a business worth Rs 10 crore from a Mumbai-based oil exploration company. Others include business from Kolkata-based Techno India Group, Hyderabad's DQ Entertainment, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporate and Chennai-based Elcot. Iris also bagged major contracts from Western Geco and TCS.

The company claimed that its flexibility is its major tool of growth besides being accessible 24x7 to its channel. Buoyed by this feel good factor, it has set the goal of Rs 750 crore for the current fiscal for which it has carefully carved out the business strategies.
