HP unveils remote client solutions for APAC

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

HP has unveiled a comprehensive suite of solutions for big enterprises in key markets of Asia Pacific. HP has also unveiled a third generation Consolidated Client Infrastructure (CCI) solution and Blade PC and workstation solutions for customers.

The new solution comprises centralized hardware, such as traditional HP thin clients often used with server-based computing architectures, the HP CCI Blade PC solution, HP Blade Workstations, and HP's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure running on HP ProLiant and BladeSystem servers. Based on common systems management, allocation management, protocol and access device infrastructure, the portfolio promises to meet the needs of a highly varied workforce.

Delivering his keynote address, Joergen Jakobsen, VP and GM-Commercial Systems Unit, HP Personal Systems Group, Asia Pacific and Japan said, “With this launch, HP is setting pace for the industry with our suite of remote client solutions in Asia Pacific. We offer a unified portfolio of solutions including thin clients, Blade PCs, Blade Workstations as well as common management tools to provide customers a more affordable, secure and reliable computing experience.”

Demonstrating the remote client solutions, Tom Flynn, Technologist-Personal Systems Group, HP said, “A flexible IT strategy is the key to managing a variety of workplace paradigms today with distributed workforces, telecommuting, outsourcing and off shoring in addition
to the security and compliance issues corporations now face. The HP CCI solution helps address these issues by improving business continuity and security, lowering operational support costs, and increasing agility by allowing IT staff to focus on growth opportunities, not technology problems.”

Explaining the third-generation CCI, Flynn said, “Third-generation HP CCI Blade PC solution enables businesses to deploy Blade PCs to their full range of traditional desktop users while delivering a true PC experience with the security and business continuity benefits of Remote Client Solutions and the ability to reduce the total cost of their technology ownership by as much as 50 percent over a traditional desktop infrastructure.”

HP also unveiled the first blade workstation and remote graphic software for its client Blade PCs. The event was followed by a demo on Session Allocation Manager, the manageability focal point of CCI and the Blade Workstation. The application provides intelligent control of Blade PC allocation to end-users and allows users to securely and easily change work locations.

The Allocation Manager 2.0 converts from single to dual monitor environments without user intervention and supports both Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol as well as HP's remote graphics software for an improved multimedia experience. It also features 'plug and play' Blade PC self-registration functionality for quick and easy deployment, as well as built-in tools that help IT staff manage Blade PC utilization to ensure maximum user productivity.
