SonicWall has appointed Select Technologies, a subsidiary of WeP Peripherals (WeP), as its second national distributor. The first distributor is Mumbai-based, IT Secure. To affirm its seriousness in India, SonicWall, also appointed a Country Manager-Shubhomoy Biswas, who will operate from a new office in Bangalore.

Explaining Select Technology's appointment as distributor, Shubhomoy said, "Select is a specialist in providing security solutions with an established presence and support network in more than 10 cities. It also sports a team of professionals with credentials and relevant experience."

According to IDC's Security Appliance Tracker, SonicWall is a leader in the Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances business worldwide. Select Technologies will be leveraging on this leadership while positioning the products mainly in SMBs. "SonicWall has a clear roadmap and is an aggressive player in the UTM business," said Sunil Pillai, Head-Information Protection, Select Technologies.

Select is known for its activities, which are focused on providing security solutions. It already has distribution and support tie-ups with most security solutions vendors in the country.

When asked about any possible clash in promoting similar products from different brands, Sunil said, "Products of each brand target different segments like enterprise, SME, SOHO and Select positions every solution, understanding customer requirements, thereby adding value to our end customers."

When asked about the problems that may arise within the company among its product managers while promoting similar products, Sunil said, "We have been distributors for many other similar products in the last many years, but we never faced any such problem so far."

Select is a solution provider and distributor rolled in to one. SonicWall being a new product for Select, the company will be putting in extra efforts to make it successful. To start with, Select has assigned dedicated managers to promote SonicWall at 10 of its main branches.

The company already has about 40 channel partners who are promoting SonicWall products. Another 30 channel partners would be added in the next one-year through Select. As far as channel promotions are concerned, Select will conduct many training seminars throughout the year. Additionally, many channel schemes targeting sales persons are also planned by October.

Within a year, Select hopes to contribute 75% of SonicWall's India sales.
