Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)'s Chairman, Chief Executive and President, Hector Ruiz will be visiting India towards the end of this month, said senior AMD India officials.

“This will be his first trip to India. This would be more of an awareness trip where would be seeing the Indian market and speaking to decision makers,” said Ajay Marathe, President, AMD India.

Marathe said that he would be visiting Ministry of Information Technology officials including Minister Dayanidhi Maran in New Delhi.

“The main agenda of the meeting would include planning India's future roadmap for increasing PC usage and broadband penetration in India,” added Marathe.

AMD along with OEM partner HCL recently launched a sub-Rs 10,000 PC, which is part of AMD'S 50x15 plan to enable 50 per cent of the world's population with Internet access and affordable computers by the year 2015.

Maran met with Ruiz when he visited US this year in a bid to woo blue chip companies in the American Silicon Valley to invest more in India.

Sixty-year old Ruiz joined AMD as President and COO in 2000 and took over as CEO from the flamboyant Jerry Sanders in 2002. (CyberMedia News)
