Ex-telecom secretary R Chandrasekhar to head Nasscom

According to latest buzz, R. Chandrasekhar, a former bureaucrat, will head the Indian IT representative body Nasscom. Chandrasekhar will succeed Som Mittal as the fourth president of the organization.

An IAS officer of 1975 batch of Andhra Pradesh cadre and retired telecom secretary, Chandrasekhar's name has been proposed for the job by a selection panel of the National Association of Software and Services Companies.

An official of the Executive Council said, "He (Chandrasekhar) is the right man for the job. He has agreed to join (as President) after he has been assured of full powers to revamp Nasscom."

Chandrasekhar helped N Chandrababu Naidu, former Andhra Pradesh CM, to set up India's first Department of Information Technology and was at its helm from 1997 to 1999. Also, he was the first to initiate the three pillars of 'e-Governance', namely Common Service Centre Program, the State Data Centre Program, and the State Wide Area Network Program of India.
