Citing comScore’s 2017 US Mobile App Report, a Business Insider report said that Facebook and Google have a considerable influence over the mobile app market. “The two companies aren’t leaving much space for other publishers to get their apps in front of users. US app users spend 90 per cent of their mobile app time in their top five apps, making up 51 per cent of total digital time spent,” the report noted.

Looking at the specific apps, the star highlight was Facebook’s main app with 81 per cent app audience penetration and around 147 million monthly users on both smartphone and tablets. Messenger came in third with 68 percent app audience penetration, while Instagram achieved sixth place with 50 percent.

Interestingly, and not so surprisingly, Google owned the most apps in the top 10. While YouTube came in first with 71 per cent app audience penetration, Google’s Search app took fourth place, then came Google Maps, followed by Google Play and Gmail at eighth and ninth spot.

Looking at the figures, looks like Apple’s phrase “there’s an app for that,” couldn’t be truer than this as apps have become the primary way for the people to interact and there is almost an app for everything.
