HP's raid in Mumbai unearths fake cartridges and accessories worth Rs 15 lakh

To tackle counterfeits aggressively, HP has developed a worldwide anti-counterfeit program, which involves enhancing the investigative infrastructure in each country substantially and providing requisite support to local government enforcement authorities.

HP has announced that fake cartridges and accessories worth Rs 15 lakh were seized in a raid conducted in Andheri, Mumbai. Following leads from market intelligence and investigations, Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR) successfully raided a major counterfeit re-filling unit in Andheri, a suburb of Mumbai, recently. 

Besides fake cartridges, a large quantity of counterfeit stickers and holograms, drums of toner powder, ink bottles and HP packaging materials were also seized from the premises. 

"HP takes infringement of its copyright and counterfeit activity very seriously. We are working very closely with the Indian authorities to stamp out such illegal activity, and their assistance has proven to be invaluable," says a HP spokesperson. "The counterfeit in the local markets is not in the interest of distributors, resellers, consumers and the Indian economy. We will continue with more aggressive efforts to eradicate such illegal activities not only to retain the highest consumer confidence in HP products and brand but more importantly to protect consumers and resellers who sell genuine HP products from being cheated by counterfeiters," he assures.

In a move to tackle counterfeit activities more aggressively, HP has developed a comprehensive Anti-Counterfeit Program at the worldwide level. This program encompasses a multi-pronged approach, which involves enhancing the investigative infrastructure in each country substantially and at the same time providing requisite support to local government enforcement authorities when required. Also included in this program is HP's improvement of its product packaging strategy and launching educational campaigns to help consumers easily and intuitively detect original HP supplies.
