“If Raka can't, none can”

Born and brought up in Kashmir, Raka Khashu is currently working as a country manager, marketing for AMD India. An Hindu College alumni, she did her PG Diploma from IIMC and also did the ISB executive course on brand management.

CURRENT JOB PROFILE:

Currently working as a country manager, marketing for AMD India, Khashu is part of the core strategy team, responsible for budgeting, planning and implementation of brand marketing campaign, introducing new products for the market, corporate and marketing communications with a focus on building customer preference for the brand in India and to increase market share for AMD in the market. "My core strengths lies in growing brands in the market through cost effective campaigns. I am following an aggressive go-to-market strategy, uniquely called AMD (Advocate, Motivate and Demonstrate) to reach consumers," says the pretty lady.

FAMILY BACKGROUND:

Khashu was born and brought up in Kashmir, but due to militancy, her family had to migrate to New Delhi in 1990. "I continued with my studies here in Delhi and since the last 20 years have been living here. My parents work for Prasar Bharati and I am indebted to them for the upbringing they gave me. My mom has been a working woman for the past 35 years, without a break. She is my biggest inspiration," claims Khashu.

GETTING INTO IT:

As a child, she always wanted to become a doctor, in line with her grandfather's dreams. "Though I was good at my studies, I realized that science was not my natural calling. The corporate world was where I wanted to be. My association with IT began quite early in my career. I was fortunate enough to be servicing Cisco as my first client ever. This was the time, when John Chambers made his first visit to India. Being part of the project team, was a dream come true for me and the learning was immense," says the elated lady.

WORKING IN MALE-DOMINATED IT:

Khashu believes that gender does not matter when it comes to challenges or opportunities at work and IT sector is no different. According to her, it provides with the best of both. One has to raise the bar every time and that is applicable to any gender.

STRENGTHS:

According to Khashu, her biggest strength lies in her persistence. "I don't give up. The best compliment that I got was from my boss once 'give some work to Raka and consider it done.....if it's not, it can't be done'."

BALANCING WORK AND LIFE:

Khashu tries and balances it over the weekends. "In between office hours, calls, meeting, there is only so much that you can do during the day. Weekend is all for family and myself. I make sure I am not traveling over the weekend, unless of course absolutely necessary and business critical."

HOBBIES:

"My newly found love is hitting the gym. I realized that no matter how tired I am, it rejuvenates me completely. Besides this, I enjoy cooking...that too the typical Kashmiri food for my family over the weekend," says she.

FUTURE PLANS:

"I am enjoying my work at AMD and would love to continue in my role in the future," concludes Khashu.
