Maxtor, one of the late entrants in the hard drive business in the country
has geared up its distribution and supply to face the hard drive shortage in the
market.
"This time around the shortage has been caused due to a shift from the
40 GB per platter to the 60 GB per platter technology by a number of
vendors," explains Rajeev Sood, Country Head, CyberStar, one of the three
distributors for Maxtor drives in the country.
Recognizing that the Indian market is of strategic importance, Maxtor has
ensured a constant supply. The distributor also claims to have witnessed demand
for Maxtor drives go up in the recent past.
To ensure that demand for Maxtor drives continues even after the shortage is
over, the company is looking at floating schemes on its SCSI and IDE range of
drives. "New products up to 120 GB are expected to come in soon," says
Rajeev.
