Microtek Computers Asia Pte Ltd wants to set up a channel network for retail
sales of digicams. The products are targeted at SOHO and the home market and
range from $99 to $199. "We are not focusing on the high-end digicam
business," says Augustin Fang, MD, APAC region.
Microtek is currently holding talks with Rashi Peripherals for the same,
though the latter is already distributing Logitech´s digital cameras. In the
past, Microtek had discontinued its partnership with Aditya Infotech, because
the latter was carrying similar product lines of rival brands. Whether this will
be the fate with Rashi too for digital cameras is yet to be determined.
At the moment Microtek has an OEM partnership with Compaq in India, which
bundles its digital cameras with its desktops.
Microtek has recently submitted documents to Indian government to facilitate
the setting up of its Indian office. "There is already another company by
the name of Microtek (which manufactures monitors) in India. We are trying to
clear legal issues in setting up our office with the same name in the country
and this is taking time," says Fang.
