Mumbai-based Pixtel Computers has decided to ramp up its presence in the

country by opening 30 outlets by March 2003. These outlets will be opened in A

and B-class cities and will carry the company’s own brand of Tenz PCs. Says

Hira Bhatia, Proprietor, Pixtel Computers, "We will offer standard as well

as tailor-made machines for the home and corporate buyers." In addition to

this, the company will also tie up with other brands and vendors.

Hira confides that these showrooms will be company-owned and not franchisee

outlets. "We tried our hand at opening a couple

of franchisee-outlets in the past, but found that the required focus for pushing

our brand was not there. Therefore this time around, we have decided to start on

our own steam," he explains.

All Tenz machines available in these showrooms will be configured on the

product roadmaps provided by MNC vendors. This means that these systems can be

easily upgraded at minimal costs. "Our price points are aggressive with the

standard entry-level PC costing Rs 19,900 with multimedia and a color

monitor," Hira informs.

Pixtel had tied up with EFL and SafeXpress to ensure timely delivery of the

machines anywhere in the country. It has also formed an alliance with HDFC and

ICICI Bank to offer easy finance schemes for buyers. However, the company itself

will not offer any credit for purchases.
