"buildurpc.com" initiative on the Net. "This is an initiative
from our side to be a friend, philosopher and guide to millions of people who
would be buying a PC for the first time. Samsung components are used to ‘build’
this PC by the SIs–so it’s a buildurpc.com PC powered by Samsung," says
Moninder.
According to him, the web site called buildurpc.com, helps customers learn
about and configure PCs online. "However, the sale happens only through
assemblers/SIs, who put a buildurpc.com sticker on it," says Moninder.
Recently, Samsung re-launched its CD-ROMs with a new look and "buildurpc.com"
printed on the front.
Sources say that such an initiative from Samsung is a step towards launching
its own brand. Besides, Samsung has been claiming that it contributes 70 percent
of a PC value-wise.
Moninder says, "This is an initiative to establish the credibility of SI’s
and assemblers vis a vis the branded PC segment."
Meanwhile, a reseller quipped, "If Samsung enters the branded PC
segment, competition will certainly hot up for HCL, Wipro, Zentih, HP and IBM.
But, if Samsung is looking at white boxes, then it has less chances to
succeed."
