Seagate unveils TapeStor Travan

Seagate has announced the availability of portable TapeStor Travan USB 2.0

bundled solutions. These external backup solutions support up to 20 GB or 40 GB

of compressed data protection per cartridge to backup data at up to 14.4 GB per

hour.

This bundled solution contains a Hornet 20 or Hornet 40 tape drive, one

Seagate-certified data cartridge, an install poster, a USB Tape Resource CD with

multi-lingual install manual and Dantz Retrospect Express backup software for

Windows and Macintosh, a vertical mounting stand, all required installation

hardware including power supply and USB cable.

Both versions connect by plugging into a USB system or hub connection.

The drives incorporate Seagate’s FastSense technology feature and are

compatible with MS Windows 98/Professional 2000/ME/XP and Mac OS. It can move

data up to 480 mbps compared with USB 1.1, which moves data up to 12 mbps.

The TapeStor Travan 40 drive specifications include 20-GB native

capacity/cartridge with 2 MB/sec native transfer rate. It features a soft-load

mechanism that reduces user error by drawing the data cartridge completely into

the drive and a park feature that improves data integrity by ensuring track

alignment if the write-operation is paused or interrupted.

The suggested MRP list price for the Seagate TapeStor Travan 20 USB 2.0

(STT6201U2-R) is $439. For the TapeStor Travan 40 USB 2.0 (STT6401U2-R), it is

$589.
