We Indians are all fools….More strongly speaking, idiots perhaps. And that is true of every man and woman alike.
All Indian men would dream of a 36-22-36 (basic statistics) woman with gori complexion, and that too with the brains of an Einstein and the caring nature of a Florence Nightingale. While in their hearts they know what they are drooling about is really a Barbie doll.
Similarly, desi girls (perhaps inspired by the mushy and trashy Mills & Boons they gobble up) think of tall, dark and handsome men, with fat bank balances, sense of humor and loyal and faithful types. Fact is at least many girls (if not most) know these characteristics together in a man is an oxymoron.
No wonder then that these same men and women get fooled every time some new imposter (or at least a smart cookie) comes to town with a new scheme related to smartphones.
The Ringing Bells Freedom 251 scheme a few months back is still fresh in memory (in fact the Rs 251 Freedom 251 is the most searched Google term for smartphones this year); there was some other such ‘scheme’ (as my enterprising friends call them) called NaMo phone or some such nonsense (not much of it expected during these demonetization times, though).
The scheme this time seems to be Vobizen Wise 5 4G smartphones. The website claims Vobizen India has come up With Vobizen Wise 5 Mobile at just Rs 499 Only. And claims it as the world’s cheapest smartphone. Registration currently on for 499, having started from November 1. Vobizenmobiles has just started taking Online Bookings For Vobizen Wise 5 Mobile . And for that You Have To Pay Rs 499 Online Via CCAVENUE Payment Gateway. And After That They Will Send You Mobile On Your Registered Address Within 22 Days.
And look at the specifications.
|Display||854 x 480 Pixel|
|Processor||1.3 GHz quad core|
|Internal Device Memory||8GB|
|Micro SD Support||Yes|
|Camera||2MP Front / 8MP Rear|
Now the company claims the smartphone actually costs Rs 3499, but this is a welcome offer for Rs 499. Now, all of us Barbie and Mills & Boons seekers are bound to gain fall for this and likely to fill up the coffers of some scheming enterprise. In fact, the website already shows consumer complaints about not receiving the products yet.
Interestingly, like Chetan Bhagat’s two states, the first two complaints are from Punjab and Chennai. While that proves that whether we are gora or kaala, Aryan or Dravidian, chikni or bhutni, we all love Barbie, and Mills & Boons, and being periodically ullu banne by ‘smart’phone makers. Vobizen is not the first, and in true desi tradition would not be the last.
