13 ways Paytm QR Codes are being used in India

QR Codes are getting increasingly popular in India. They are square-shaped codes that can be easily accessed by any phone with a camera, letting us hyperlink and interact with the physical world. Its zero-cost model in terms of infrastructure and monthly rentals has made it immensely popular with consumers and merchants in cities and town in our country. 1)      Collect donation

Paytm recently invited contributions for the welfare of Indian soldiers and their families. The company put out newspaper ads and social media posts, and received an incredible response. Several NGOs and Self-help groups are using Paytm QR codes to invite online and offline donations at charity events, kiosks and social media.

2) Contribution at places of public worship

Several important places of public worship including Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, Cathedral Church of The Redemption in Delhi and ISKCON Temples across the country accept cashless donations. Devotees can scan the Paytm QR Codes installed in the premises to pay their donations instantly.

3) Outdoor Advertising

Brands like Snickers, Havmor Ice-cream, among others are using Paytm QR Codes in their print advertisements, outdoor installations and BTL marketing materials to drive sales and promotions.

4) Business Cards

QR Codes are increasingly becoming the de facto way to offer more information on a business card. As Paytm has now integrated the capability to scan generic QR Codes, creative professionals and entrepreneurs are choosing to add a sleek QR Code to their business cards rather than overload them with information.

5) Shagun at Weddings

Indians using Paytm QR Codes at their wedding to invite guests to offer digital shaguns to the bride and groom by scanning the QR codes using their Paytm app and paying instantly.

6) Pay at Small Shops

Small merchants have embraced Paytm’s zero-cost QR-based payment solution as it does not require any additional investment (as in case of PoS machines) and there is no transaction fee. Today millions of street vendors, local kirana stores, vending machines and food trucks among others accept Paytm as their preferred payment method.

7) Payments at Branded Retail Outlets

Paytm has democratized the country’s payments sector by allowing every Indian merchant – small or large to accept digital payments. Several brand retail stores including Croma, Heritage Fresh, Mother Dairy, Easy Day among others accept QR-based payments with Paytm.

8) Payment at Metros

In Delhi, commuters can generate QR-based online tickets using their Paytm app, and use it to travel on the heritage line, while Mumbai Metro allows commuters to scan the Paytm QR Codes at ticket counters to pay for their one-way tickets or recharge their metro cards. This has led to faster checkout times and a smoother payment experience.

9) Utility Bill Payments

Several electricity, water and gas boards like BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Noida Power Corporation Limited, Delhi Jal Board, Indraprastha gas Limited, Tata Power Delhi and PSPCL among others are Paytm QR-enabled. Subscribers are no longer obliged to carry exact change, but simply scan the QR code at the respective bill payment counter to pay for their utility bill instantly.

10) Instant Money Transfer

Every Paytm user has a unique QR Code that can be scanned using the Paytm app to pay him/her. Every user also has the option to share their QR codes using various messaging platforms and scan QR codes from their phone’s internal memory to pay each other.

11) Pay at events or movie theatres

Paytm customers can choose to buy tickets offline by scanning Paytm QR Codes at the ticket counters at the venue. Most food and beverage outlets at such venues are also Paytm-enabled to ensure an end-to-end cashless experience.

12) Pay school and college fee

Several schools, colleges, universities and coaching institutes including Amity University, Manipal University, Thapar University, Lovely Professional University, Akash Institute, Allen and GD Goenka World School among others accept fee payments using the Paytm QR Code. Cafeterias, tuck shops, books and merchandise stores at these institutions are also Paytm QR-enabled.

13) Scan generic QR codes

Paytm has now integrated the capability to scan any non-Paytm QR codes generated using open standards. This new feature on the Paytm app also help consumers browse web links, download apps and store information among others.
