Earlier the average profile of Minicomp's channel partner used to be that of a mere box mover in the SOHO segment. However, today its resellers are servicing the SOHO, semi-corporates and co-operative banks, apart from home users.

This restructuring in the channel network helped Minicomp achieve agency revenue of Rs 68 crore in 2000-01 as against Rs 51 crore in 1999-00 at a growth rate of 34 percent. However, this was much lower than the growth of 115 percent achieved in the previous year. The total revenue stood at an impressive Rs 114 crore compared to Rs 86 crore last year.

Last fiscal, Minicomp experienced a demand versus supply squeeze especially from Intel on their processor lines, though there were times when disk drives and other peripherals also went into short supplies. The company also faced cash flow crisis owing to payment defaults by its partners. The other major issue of concern was that of product positioning and the frequency at which products were getting obsolete.

Minicomp signed up a national distributorship alliance with iSystems of Taiwan to market and maintain their entire range of desktop PCs, workstations and Octaframe servers in India. Presently, the company is looking at an alliance with Apple to promote Power Macs and

iMacs.

For Minicomp, P-III was the star product last fiscal. P-III 500, 550, 700 and 800 MHz processors together with Intel 810 chipset motherboards bought in the maximum revenue.

Minicomp offered better value additions in every PC scheme that was launched during the year 2000-2001. In fact its "Buy-A-Minicomp-PC-And-Get-One-Free" scheme had the market talking about it. Minicomp sold over 1,400 systems in a span of 12 weeks of the scheme being launched.
