3Com India has launched Superstack 4 switch 6,200 to cater to the needs of large enterprises in the country. Priced at $25,000, the company plans to initially market this product through its three system integrators--Micro Village, 3D Network and HCL
Infosystems.
According to Vijay Yadav, Country Manager, 3Com India and SAARC, "We have specifically launched this product to meet the security and networking needs of large enterprises. This segment has been our primary focus for the last one year and this is one of our moves to enhance our base here."
3Com is already in talks with a couple of companies to give a trial run for this high-priced product. Vijay is confident that the price will not matter to companies which realize the importance of safe-guarding its network. To drive home this point, he notes that 3Com sold 500 units of Superstack 4,400 switch, which is priced at $995, in a single quarter.
Vijay reflects that 3Com was earlier concentrating more on the SMBs for which it has specifically designed two switches--4,226 and 3,226. But since last fiscal, the company has shifted its focus to large enterprises, which contribute a bulk of its business.
The company has also opened a research and development center in Hyderabad for developing VoIP products, with 85 resident engineers. It has also increased its reseller base from 500 to 600 in the past six months and plans to add one more distributor soon.
