A simple Graduate from Delhi University, Mohan Gupta, MD, KG Software and Services had never planned to get into IT business, but he always wanted to be an entrepreneur. His journey in software business started in the year 1995, when accounting software Busy was launched in India. Gupta joined hands with Busy Infotech in 1995 and became the best sales person in a short span of time. His sales and marketing skill helped him to sell 100 copies of software in the early days of job. Since then his passion to sell Busy software has been phenomenal.
Gupta worked with Busy Infotech for 10 months and after that, the company offered him to start distribution business in Delhi. Then in the year 1996, Gupta established its own KG Software and Services. “I have been enjoying healthy relationship with Busy Infotech for last 16 years. Today we have supplied Busy software to every small and large enterprise. Moreover, we focused on partner engagement, conducted training programs for its reseller partners, and organized seminars and workshop as part of promotional schemes,” says Gupta. This helped Gupta’s business to grow
at a CAGR of 30%. In 1996 he started distributing Busy, and in a short span of time became very strong in Delhi. By then the turnover of the company had reached 3 crore.
Today KG Software and Services (KGSS) is an authorized channel partner for Busy. Since its inception in early 1995, KGSS has been serving its esteemed clientele through Busy accounting software and other IT solutions. The company has a wide horizon of customers from one shop operators to shopping malls to exhibitions to multi-branded organizations; from 9,000-to 20,000 users installation. The major 40% business is driven through references only.
THE EARLY DAYS
Gupta started his first job at Busy Infotech with a meager amount of `2,000 monthly stipend, but his quest for learning new things made him a best sales man in the company. “I always strive for something different; this enables me to learn and adopt new technologies. Back then I saw a great opportunity in the IT industry which was at a very nascent stage. Initially selling software was a daunting task we used to speak to officials and apprise them of the accounting solutions for their pain-points. I have always believed that even if you are a small company, if you are technology-oriented and understand customer pain-points then customers will listen to you,” Gupta says. Riding on this approach, KGSS won several projects in government entities such as Delhi Metro, factories and various ministries.
KGSS has been #1 channel partner for Busy accounting software since very first year services. What made KGSS gain this position? He replies, “We love the software and its user friendliness. We have a dedicated team and our main motto is customer orientation. We always strive to simplify accounting practices and complexity of business process, we help our customer in making their business simple and saving valuable time for more fruitful business activities.” The company has been implementing software solutions as per customer’s requirement and business need. KGSS has been growing as one of the strong pillars for the Busy growth.
The company loves to beat its own sales target every quarter and always wants to strive more. The company works on the philosophy that customer is essential for business. Gupta aims to retain existing customers through timely services. He feels that order is just the start of a relationship. Additionally, Gupta keeps its dealers and customers happy by offering healthy margins and robust service network Besides KGSS, which is an exclusive distribution company for Busy software Gupta has another line of hardware company KG Softech, which is into business servicing data recovery, repairing and AMC computers, software, CCTV video conferencing, etc. This business is handled by Gupta’s younger brother Jagdish Gupta. In addition, the company has its own institution where it provides training computer Accountants and professionals.

The company expects spreading its wings outside Delhi, the company plans to open few more offices. KGSS aims for a 30% increase in revenue in the current fiscal and a 40% increase in FY14. The company is also expecting better returns from the hardware brands it included in its portfolio recently.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
While Gupta does not have any role model, he considers his parents as his role model. Although a workaholic, spending quality time with his family and friends is his idea of a vacation. Gupta likes watching movies, traveling with kids/ family, celebration with loved ones.
