Small towns like Yavatmal, and now Ankleshwar and Bharuch are going the expo
way. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that for associations,
conducting expos is a good way to earn money and for dealers, it is a good
opportunity to engage with customers through participation in the expo.

Ankleshwar Bharuch IT Association (ABITA), which has been formed with the
combination of IT-dealers from two towns-Ankleshwar and Bharuch, recently
conducted its IT-Expo 2008 at the SVMIT Engineering College between Feb 23 and
25.

Dharmendra Joshi, VP, ABITA said, “Flash drives worth Rs 5 lakh were sold at
the event. IT-education institutes like Jetking also received many enrollments
for their courses from the expo. There were good inquiries for PCs, notebooks
and networking products.”

The overall objective for conducting an IT-expo was to promote IT in Bharuch
and Ankleshwar, which was almost achieved as around 70,000 people thronged the
expo. Though entry for the public was free, the association is planning to
charge something in the next year looking at the huge crowd that throngs the
event.

Around 60 dealers booked their stalls at ABITA expo. The main sponsor of the
event was Jetking. ABITA banned Intel in the expo as Intel had earlier declined
to be a part of it.

ABITA was formed in 2003 and presently has around 82 registered members. It
has been conducting customer awareness programs in Bharuch and Ankleshwar to
educate its members about new trends and technologies.
