Set up in 1979, Artek grew from an electronics supplier to a specialized
networking czar. With an array of prestigious networking projects in hand, Artek
Enterprises plans to excel itself in this business. It has done varied projects
for the defense, army and educational institutions till now. Anil Gupta,
Director, Artek Enterprises feels that this journey began the day he envisaged
about a company that can bring difference in the way people communicate.
PAST PERFECT
It started with a networking project for the ordinance factory way back in
early 80's. "Those were the days of bulky mainframes and in terms of
networking it used to be only the interconnections of these mainframe computers
and making a network of these computers," quips Anil.

Since the first network installation, Artek has done networking for some 400
sites, has installed over one lakh nodes and done about one lakh meters of
cabling. "With such a past backing us, our expertise lies in the fact that
we want to deliver not just solutions, but complete solutions that can cater to
every need of our customer." The path was difficult but a clear goal helped
Artek successfully the worst of situation.
BEHIND THE SUCCESS
For Anil, success is not a word; it is a state in which one has to be in.
Beneath this techno-wizard's mind lies a tough business mind that knows how
important it is to keep the goal in front every time.
"Consistency and the aim to hit on to are important factors. It is very
easy to go beyond one's capabilities but holding on to stable grounds is very
important," says Anil and adds that beneath the firm structure of his
organization lies a greater thought to become not just the foremost but the
best.
Success doesn't come from diligence, late working or from a single formula.
Success for Anil is generating intelligent business with consistent work.
"Projects don't come easy to anyone, nor do they it to us. We have been
able to generate our portfolio from intelligent work of accessing needs and
providing a solution that will be the best for that customer," he adds.
PACING WITH TECH
According to Anil, WiFi is poised to change the definition of staying
connected. Another technology that is changing the face of connectivity is the
gizmos that are now reduced in size and are also faster. "The wave of
technology at times leaves us all exhausted in the learning process. But it is
the new learning that will keep us successful in the business," says Anil.
He says that the new technology is definitely cutting the business of the
conventional cable laying work, but as prices drop more and more people are
adopting the networked environment. "Now you can hear of fully networked
homes, which was unheard of," says Anil. As the technology become
ubiquitous, the business is also expanding.
Technology knowledge for him is the mantra of being the best. According to
him the decision for this electronics company to become a networking
organization was not overnight, it was the firm belief in the thought that it
will be a solutions based organization. "Another reason that has given us
the success in this business that we do is not sit on the top of solutions and
tailoring them according to the need of the client, but building solutions right
from the scratch," says Anil. According to him, solutions can never be
absolute and every client has his or her own unique requirements. "You
cannot have one fit for all solution," says he.

FUTURE PLANS
Artek has grown horizontally, i.e. expanding on its own expertise. Right now it
has nine branches across the nation. Anil says that the opening of branches is
also driven by the needs and requirements of the clients. "One more reason
to open branches is to provide our clients the best possible uptime and generate
confidence in them," says Anil.
Artek is planning to open some more branches in the near future to give
better reach and provide better service to the customers. Anil is not interested
in diversifying Artek in to other business segments. It will concentrate only on
networking business so as to provide the best of solutions in the communications
area. He says that Artek would expand at its own comfortable pace and not hurry
up to a level that will be unmanageable.
