However, when contacted over the phone Alok has neither confirmed nor denied
this movement.

Having worked with IBM, Alok Ohrie is highly regarded within the Indian IT
circles. Especially when he has worked very closely with the partner community,
promoting technology and personal computing for IBM in the Indian region.

With Alok joining in as the Managing Director for AMD's India operations, the
company would be now be hoping to further cement its Indian operations. This
strengthening is likely to happen in terms of better positioning of the
company's product range to its partner ecosystem and at the same time increasing
its marketshare in the region.

On the other hand, experts inside the industry feel that this movement will
surely have a big impact on AMD's competitor Intel and is likely to place Intel
in a tight spot when it comes to placing its product range for the channel
community.

“As far as CPU business is concerned, if you want to drive technology, you
cannot do it just by pushing your product through OEMs. Intel was a leader in
terms of technology, but AMD is leading the pack in technology today. This
movement will surely put pressure on Intel. Channel plays a very important role
in this segment. AMD knows this and Alok's presence in India will have a big
difference when it comes to putting the right channel in place and even
increasing the marketshare for AMD,” informs a New Delhi based solution provider
on conditions of anonymity.
