Under the agreement, Plantronics will acquire all of the capital stock of Altec Lansing for a cash purchase price in total of approximately $166 million. Following the close of the transaction, the resulting wholly-owned subsidiary of Plantronics will be called Altec Lansing Technologies.

Plantronics is a publicly held company, headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, with more than 4,500 employees and presence in 20 countries. According to Anthony J Wilkinson, VP—Sales and Business Development —Asia Pacific, channel partners worldwide will be soon informed about this development and will be told to promote the Plantronics range of communications headset. “All other product range will remain same,” he informed.

Plantronics is known for the introduction of the first lightweight headset in 1962. Another interesting fact about Plantronics headset was that it was used for Neil Armstrong's historic 'One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind' transmission from the moon in 1969.
