AMD has introduced the mobile Athlon XP processor 1800+ with
QuantiSpeed architecture. This processor supports Socket A platform features
including PC-133 or advanced DDR SDRAM memory, and high-performance 4x AGP
graphics.
The processor combines a super-scalar floating point engine
with AMD’s 3DNow! Professional technology to deliver 3D graphics and
multimedia capabilities. Applications that can take advantage of these features
include digital video editing, MP3 compression, DVD playback, digital audio
processing and numerically intensive scientific and technical applications.
The new processor is priced at $335, in 1,000-unit
quantities.
