AMD introduced its 64-bit Opteron processor which is compatible with the
industry-standard x86 architecture and the performing 2-way and 4-way processor
for servers.

up to 19.2GB/s peak bandwidth per processor with 256 Terabytes of memory address
space. It scales from 1-way to 8-way across entire data or compute centers
utilizing the same hardware and software infrastructure. Its integrated memory
controller reduces latencies during memory access in a SMP server system.
AMD Opteron processor Models 240, 242 and 244 for up to 2-way servers are
available now while Opteron processors in the 800 series for up to 8-way servers
