AMD has launched three new schemes targeted at various channel partners,
right from the big local assemblers to smaller ones. The programs are called:
AMD Green Storm, Fax and Win, and Go for Gold. The AMD Green Storm is aimed at
resellers based in metros and involves giving AMD a visible shelf space. The Fax
and Win offer is targeted at small systems integrators across the nation. Go for
Gold is an innovative scheme for all resellers in India. This scheme has been
launched along with Tech Pacific to promote the Athlon XP box processor. Anyone
selling at least 125 units of Athlon XP box processor in A class cities, 100
units in B class cities and 75 units in C class cities will be entitled for an
all expense
paid trip to Dubai Shopping Festival.
The schemes hope to accentuate the company's presence in the channel segment.
Sanjeev Keskar, Country Manager (India), AMD, says, "The end-consumer is
getting the feel of the product. Compaq's Athlon-based PC has given us a great
mileage and we plan to continue with such initiatives."
He also revealed that AMD has tied up with Microsoft to do roadshows in some
cities on an AMD-powered PC for its latest game -- Age of Mythology. AMD has
expanded its direct presence in seven cities through its channel relationship
company -- Surfgold. It has also appointed a Channel Manager in Mumbai to look
after the western part of the country. Rahul Singh, Senior Marketing Specialist,
AMD, says, "Now the presence can be seen in smaller cities too. Our
expansion in more cities has been able to give us the required mileage."
Singh felt that these schemes have given the company a greater visibility in
the processor market. "We are also making inroads in the server market and
with the launch of Opteron, AMD will be in a stronger position to offer an
extensive range of processor solutions," he says.
Meanwhile, AMD has announced 'AMD Athlon 64' as the brand name for its
next-generation processor for desktop and mobile PCs, formerly code named 'Clawhammer'.
This AMD Athlon 64 processor is expected to be the industry's first and only
64-bit, x86 PC processor for desktop and mobile computing. Systems featuring the
AMD Athlon 64 processor are planned to be available in late Q2 of 2003 and AMD
Opteron processor is planned to be available in the same period for the server
and workstation markets.
