Targeting the 'everyday computing segment', Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) launched Sempron processor family in India. "The day-to-day computing needs
of home and business users have evolved from basic email, web browsing and word processing to downloading music, photo editing and sharing, movie
viewing and advanced office productivity. It is keeping this kind of evolution that we are introducing AMD Sempron for notebook and desktop
computer users," explained AMD's Far East Ltd (India) Country Manager, Sanjeev
Keskar.
According to Sanjeev, Sempron-a 32-bit offering from AMD is positioned as a product line enabling performance on home
and business applications. As the company launched its new processor - OEMs like LG and HCL have already
started embracing the new product. "In India we are working closely with LG and HCL Infosystems to offer Sempron based systems
and internationally the product is soon going to be accepted by Acer, Asus and HP. Just two days
back Lenovo has launched its products in China with Sempron," Keskar informed.
Presently hovering at 18 percent marketshare worldwide - the chipmaker is positive to increase its share of the pie in the
coming months. "According to MAIT, non-Intel based PCs are at 18 percent and IDC puts this figure at
11.8 percent. This is a good achievement for us and we would be increasing our marketshare over here," he informed.
The AMD Sempron processor 2200+, 2300+, 2400+, 2500+, 2600+, 2800+ and 3100+ are priced between $ 39 and $
