My father-in-law who is the Chairman and MD of the AISECT Group is one of the most renowned social entrepreneurs and educationists of this country. Working in Male-dominated field of IT

If we look at absolute numbers of men in the industry vs the women, yes obviously the industry would seem dominated. But at an individual level, great performing women are also rising very well.

Does a Glass ceiling exist?

The IT industry has several thousands of young women working at the junior and middle management levels. However, at top management levels, there are just a handful of women who have made it, unlike in the education industry or the Finance industry where even top management roles are held by women. "In our country all said and done women do choose to spend time with their children and roles which involve erratic and strenuous work hours and endless travel might not be preferred. It is for these reasons as well that women who want to get to the management levels of large IT companies definitely need to prove themselves in terms of time commitments before bagging such roles." Says Pallavi.

Advice to working women

According to pallavi, work is extremely critical to gain a personal sense of satisfaction apart from the usual benefits like salary or social status. Her advice to women is that they should work passionately and competitively as long as possible. Familial roles are of course important but it is very important to have a space for yourself which is what work usually provides.

Hobbies

She loves to travel, read and write.

Future plans

"We are in the process of launching several new products, services and solution for the semi urban and rural markets. This is what our focus right now." Concludes Pallavi.
