Analysing Desi Cyber Crime

The Government is serious about fighting Cyber crime. It is investing Rs 196 crore to create cyber crime prevention cells and train 2,500 women police officers, 25,000 male police officers as well as 13,000 judicial officers to prevent and punish those uploading offensive material against women and children on the internet.

Cyber Crime in States

Either Maharashtra has the most tech savvy criminals or the police in the state are most proactive in arresting Cyber criminals.

The surprise here is the much derided Uttar Pradesh where the maximum number of arrests has happened; seems the Lucknow based Cybercrime cell and 1091 helpline created IG Navneet Sekeira has helped.

Cyber crime in India

Indian Police have become more tech savvy over the years, as evident from the increasing arrest on cybercrimes. Most stringent laws would ultimately lead to increase to conviction across the country.

Most targeted

Government and industry sites seem to be the favorite of online criminals. Even individual sites are not scared; probably more careful self monitoring could help in reducing cybercrime.

Sector/ industry

Hotels and Retails sites have been victimized maximum by cybercriminals. Entertainment and e-mail Marketing sites seems to be the next favorite.
