ARTEK ENTERPRISES: Defense on the cards

Having bagged major deals with the defense force and IIT Kanpur, Artek
Enterprises is now focusing on providing a variety of services to defense and
education sectors and expanding its product offerings

Showing signs of a steady growth, Artek Technologies clocked a turnover of Rs
60.40 crore for 2005-2006. The company has two primary divisions - channel
division and intergration division. Channel division looks after the
distribution business and the intergration division deals with projects and
selling to customers.

Almost 50 percent of the company's revenue comes from resellers/dealers,
while SOHO and the home segment has been another big revenue earner for Artek.

    The solution provider has recently bagged a major deal worth Rs 9-10 crore
    with the defense. Another deal the company is working on is tying up with
    foreign companies for communication equipments such as audiovisual products.
    Lucrative projects that Artek bagged during this fiscal include the supply and
    installation of latest audiovisual equipments like video servers, Optimux, video
    streamer, video conferencing, plasma screens, projection system etc in Ambala
    army area. This deal is worth Rs 95 lakh. In another deal worth Rs 4 crore,
    Artek will supply core switches, optical fiber cable, servers and wireless
    access points to IIT Kanpur.

    Among the brands the company is working with are D-Link, Gigabyte, Mro-Tek,
    RAD, Zyxel, Linksys, Symantec, Sun, Cisco, HP, Microsoft, Wipro, Nortel and
    Systimax. Out of these D-Link is the top vendor for its distribution business.

    The company has also given a lot of importance to training its employees. An
    in-house training is provided to employees every Saturday, not to mention,
    outsourced training is also provided regularly. Artek has grown their base by
    about 20 to 25 percent. The company is aiming for a minimum of 25 percent growth
    in its area of operation.

    Among its achievements for the fiscal 2005-06 are setting up of
    representative offices in Haryana, Punjab and Ranchi.
