Asus notebooks launched in India

AsusTeK Computer Inc launched five notebooks in the Indian market targeted at home and corporate customers--Digital home-W1V, A5E, Thin and Light-W5A, M5A, S5A.

All Asus notebooks are launched under the Intel Sonoma platform coupled with minimum 512MB ram. For the leisure customers, Asus has launched W1 series of notebooks having built-in home theatre system. 

According to IDC's India Quarterly PC Market Tracker report, the notebook PC segment was the star performer from April-June 2005. This segment grew 60% sequentially and 138% year-on-year and crossed the one lakh barrier. The report further states that notebook PCs emerged as a preferred choice over desktops due to factors of convenience and productivity.

Speaking on Asus' growth plans in India, MD, Andrew Tsui said, “We will open Asus Royal Club-an exclusive service centre dedicated to notebooks-in Mumbai by 2005-end. As our sales increase, we will set up similar centers in Delhi, Bangalore and other metros of the country. We also plan to ramp up our India headcount from 50 to 80 soon.”

Jigesh Shah, Business Manager, Asus India added, "To make the products readily available for our consumers, we plan to extend our dealer base by targeting non-IT retail outlets too."
