Facing some of the toughest times ever, resellers in Baroda are counting on the just-concluded BITA (Baroda Information

Technology Association) IT Expo for getting better business in the few months ahead. The exhibition which

was held between 24th and 26th January attracted nearly one lakh visitors with over 100 stalls displaying their wares. Resellers have expressed hope

that a visitor turnout like this may transform into actual sales in the next two-three months. Says Babul Desai, MD, Pulsive Tech, "Buying sentiments

have been at its lowest ebb for many months now. We hope that because of this exhibition, many users will feel encouraged to make IT purchases."

A feeling, which is shared by Paritosh Mehta, President BITA as well. He says,

"Traditionally, SOHO buyers in past have postponed their purchases until the IT Expo in order to get their hands on latest products at attractive prices.

We hope it would be same this year and the months of February, March and April would bring in good sales for the channel community."

Home and SOHO segment contributes majorly to the overall IT sales in Baroda.

"Corporates are not investing much in this city and Government too has very

little requirement as of now," laments Babul. He feels that only by exploring newer avenues in IT reselling can one sustain in these hard times.

"Dealing in second-hand PCs, selling low-cost products could be some of the ways for us resellers to ensure our survival in the

market." Both Paritosh and Babul agreed to the fact that things have only gone from

bad to worse in Baroda with persistent communal tensions prevailing and market still to overcome huge payment defaults of the past.
