IT field is said to be a male dominated field. How did this field fascinate you? Why did you choose to make your career in the technology industry?

Technology has always fascinated me. We live in a fast-moving world that is constantly evolving, and a lot of these changes are due to the ever changing  technologies. I came into this industry by chance and accepted the challenge to grow a small IT security company into one of the top 5 channel partners in India (as rated by IDG). Today, India has a handful of well-recognized and respected security solution providers that are industry leaders, and Jainam Technologies is one of them.

What is your role in Jainam Technologies India Ltd.? What are your key responsibilities in the company?

I head Sales & Operations at Jainam Technologies. As COO the responsibilities are   the following:

  • Reporting to the MD. Work jointly on targets set for the company.MD is technical autocrat excelling in vision & technical consultancy ,I have the business strength –together we run the technical sales for Jainam
  • Smooth running of the Operations in the company.
  • Leading/monitoring Pan-India sales, managing post-sales operational activities and maintaining good health of client relationships post sales
  • The sales teams are capable ,well equipped & well trained by both the MD & myself to achieve the targets set
  • Developing and escalating the organization's strategy and mission statement to the company executives and implementing appropriate rewards & recognition.
  • Coaching and corrective practices to align our personnel with company goals.
  • Driving performance measures for the operations in the form of dashboards.

Being COO of a relatively small-sized company is a role which requires business acumen/multi tasking capabilities along with a toughness to take on pressure. One requires to be made of steel as there are many issues with a tough exterior to match to withstand the pressures along with managing key functional divisions.

Being a senior woman executive what kind of challenges did you face in initial days of your career or while dealing with your counterparts?

Being more “delicate looking”, it has been always a task to prove that looks can be deceptive. It was an uphill battle in the first half of my career as a delicate demeanor is seen as soft and incapable. Initially it was tough trying to prove that a woman is actually as strong if not stronger mentally & physically at work as most men in India are brought up to believe otherwise

Despite having talent, the ratio of woman entrepreneurs is still very less in the Indian IT industry. According to you, what are the prominent reasons behind low level of participation by women in the technology jobs?

Tedious long hours of sitting at a desk is straining as the work is more taxing than other fields. The IT field is different from other fields as the brain has to be utilized to the maximum here. Most women prefer a sociable type of atmosphere with a glamorous touch. However, the IT industry has no glamour at all and requires high levels of focus ,drive, determination  and motivation.

What is your success mantra in career? What advice you want to give to women IT professionals?

Believe in your own capabilities and never undermine yourself. Work towards a set goal. Let your actions determine the results.  If anyone puts you down, stand firm and fight your own battles.

What are your hobbies and interests and what are your future plans, personally and professionally?

I want to travel extensively and build a beautiful bright future once again.

Please tell us about your family and educational back ground.

I did my post graduate in Project Management. My family members live in Nepal and Singapore. There are some strong and inspiring business minds in my family, and the warm, friendly Punjabi genes are strong.

Please highlight few of your professional achievements.

Over the last 14 years, along with the MD, I have helped this company grow from a ten-member team to 450 member team. I consider Jainam’s growth and increase in revenue over the years as our biggest achievement. Today, the company has been rated by IDG as one of the top five channel partners in India. The strength of Jainam lies in the brilliant technical strength as well as excellent sales team we have developed over the years. Needless to say, we would not be where we are without the technical brilliance of our passionate MD himself, Mr. Mehul Doshi who is a renowned Cyber security Consultant in India as well as outside India. Today, Jainam Technologies has 35 awards and recognitions, including Best Sales /technical and Channel Partner Award from leading Global OEMs like Symantec, Palo Alto,Juniper, Bluecoat, F5, etc. The awards are impressive, but the real award for me is always respect and recognition from OEMs worldwide, and valued customers.
