Bhavya comes from a family of working professionals. Her father worked in the private sector as a Chemical Engineer and mother an educationist. She grew up appreciating how well her parents balanced their work and home life. "My mother has been my role model for the ways in which she managed a healthy balance between work and life. As a working mother today, I lean on those early lessons I learnt from her," says Bhavya. Blessed to have a supportive family, her husband Satya, an entrepreneur and two sons, Aditya (14) and Atulya (12) implicitly believe in her abilities and wholeheartedly encourage and support in her professional endeavors.

Working in male-dominated field of IT

Like many organizations today, VMware has diversity focused initiatives to recruit, retain and encourage the growth of women employees. Bhavya participates in these initiatives hoping to make a difference. She has always viewed it as a challenge to work in a male-dominated world. Stereotypes abound and it is really important to recognize and call these out and take them head on. However, she would like to see more women taking up sales and customer facing roles. This will help break stereotypes and bring in more diversity and fresher ideas into the workforce.

Does a Glass ceiling exist?

"Indeed it does, but in my view it can definitely be broken. It calls for a high degree of determination and resilience and all around support. In my experience if a person begins to add value the gender becomes less relevant. However, women often need to jump through more hoops to demonstrate their inner potential as compared to their male colleagues. This needs to change, " says Bhavya with confidence oozing from her body language.
