Computer Dealers Association Tirunelveli (CDAT) will conduct its annual IT
expo from May 22 to 24, 2008. CDAT has proposed to inaugurate the expo by
inviting C Umashankar, MD, ELCOT and District Collector of Tirunelveli. MV
Shankar, Chairman-IT Expo-2008, CDAT, said, “Tirunelveli is the preferred IT
market today for all the vendors. With ELCOT setting up a 500 acre IT park in
Tirunelveli with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore and the governments Special
Economic Zone (SEZ) coming up at a place 20km from Tirunelveli, it is one of the
fastest growing tier-2 cities. We want to create awareness on these happenings
and the importance of IT among the public, and this expo will be instrumental
for that.”
CDAT has proposed to accommodate around 60 stalls and 40 to 45 dealers from
the association would be participating in the expo. There are about 135
organized and unorganized dealers in Tirunelveli. “Tirunelveli is growing fast
in the IT sector and with the help of this expo, we can show the potential of IT
in our city to the students and end-users,” Shankar claimed.
CDAT has already intimated vendors on the opportunities this expo will offer
and it will send a formal invite to them to participate in the event. “We
would be inviting all the sectors, including the student community for the expo.
This will be a good opportunity for vendors and dealers to showcase their
products and will be educative for the end-users,” he averred. Stressing the
same, H Naushad Batcha, President, CDAT said, “There is very little awareness
among the public on the developments happening in the IT industry in these
cities and the vendors can do a better job by providing a lot of exposure to the
users by displaying their products.”
The association also plans to raise funds from the expo and utilize that in
serving the needy people, informed Batcha. The dealers plans to provide lots of
offer prices and laptops as surprise gifts to end-users during the expo and also
have proposed to conduct seminars on various emerging IT developments.
