Making an entry into the Indian printer market, Japan-based Citizen has entered into a distribution-focused partnership with Chandigarh's Independent Business Machines (IBM) to push its range of Point of Sale (POS) printers in the Indian region. As part of its effort to market the printer range — IBM has formulated its strategy to initially target markets of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkota.
“To start our effort towards marketing these printers, initially, we are targeting Delhi Mumbai and Kolkota. The objective is to position Citizen's complete range of impact, thermal and thermal transfer printers for the growing POS segment in India. The printers are available in parallel, serial and USB interface,” informed Sandeep Poddar, Director at Independent Business Machines.
In its bid to offer Citizen's POS printers as part of an end-to-end solution, IBM is trying to align itself with companies like Bartronics, Micromation and Atlanta Systems. “All these companies have their set of solutions and we are trying to position our printers so that they have an end-to-end solution embedding our world class printers,” he added.
These printers come with a footprint of two to five inches or 48mm to 50 mm. The company is pricing these printers between Rs 2,500 to Rs 72,000 and is also looking forward to partner with HCL as its customer for thermal printers. “We are engaged in talks with HCL and they are quite positive towards our thermal printers. India is a big country and with the kind of response that we are getting from companies like HCL, we are hopeful of getting sizable business footprint as far as Indian printer market is concerned,” he explained.
