36 Years old Chinese national Han Junwe from China's Hubei city has been nabbed by the BSF while smuggling Indian SIM cards into China. He admitted to procuring 1300 Indian SIM cards with forged documents. He is said to own a hotel in Gurugaon and in UP and is said to be linked with a Chinese intelligence agency.

Han Junwe's companion Sun Jiang was caught in Lucknow recently in the same connection.

They used the Indian SIM cards to hack Indian bank accounts and other financial portals and engaged in causing fraudulent transactions.

This is a new form of cyber attack, where SIM cards are used to go online and hack into financial data online.

Caution for the IT-MSMEs

The IT MSMEs are cautioned while using their SIM cards and online financial information. They eed to be extra careful with their passwords, as with this kind of fraudulent activity they are in danger of losing money to Chinese intelligence agencies.

Now, because of the Corona-related lockdowns and especially after the 2nd wave of Corona, which has caused great financial pressure on the IT MSMEs, who have already been suffering from a failing economy for several years.

Now with these kinds of cyber threats, they are greater danger of losing money and in getting trapped by the Chinese intelligence agencies.

This is especially true of IT hardware sellers as they import almost all their products from China. Some Chinese individuals may pose as manufactures and exporters of IT products, while they may have links with the fraudulent cyber threat groups and to Chinese intelligence agencies.

Hence, IT MSMEs need to be extra cautious while dealing with Chinese manufacturers and exporters. They should first ascertain their true identities before getting into any kind of business deal with them.
