Company: Indu Projects
Profile
Hyderabad-based Indu Projects, established in December 2001, focuses on building
housing and commercial real-estate projects besides taking up hospital and
irrigation projects. While the mainland focus for housing and commercial estate
projects is in geographies spreading across Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, they
have presence in Shillong building hospital projects. The company has also taken
up various irrigation projects in places including Rajamundry, and other
villages in Andhra Pradesh. Going forward, the company has tied up with Shell
India, an upcoming oil and gas company for which it is setting up four units
with 200 outlets spanning Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Current IT infrastructure in the company
With offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore, we have around 100 workstations
running predominantly on Microsoft Windows operating system. We also have four
Intel-based servers. 50% of the workstations comprise of assembled machines
while the rest constitute branded machines from Wipro.

As far as applications are concerned, we intend to migrate to financial and
HR packages like SAP and Tally. Our other IT hardware includes printers and
scanners. We have equipment like Xerox machines taken on a leased basis. But
with the influx of all-in-one machines, we might opt for such products in the
coming days. Since we don't have too many executives who need to travel often,
we have eight laptops from IBM and Toshiba.
Value of existing IT infrastructure
Since we have a combination of both assembled and branded systems, as well
as printers and scanners, the whole IT hardware and software is worth around Rs
25 lakh. Since our organization does not need a combination of software
applications, the software cost is much lower, as majority of the investments
are incurred on hardware infrastructure.
Proposed IT infrastructure for 2005-06
With the business momentum growing, we plan to scale up our operations in
both our facilities. This implies an addition of nearly 80 to 100 workstations
more. But this need not necessarily mean an addition of servers. As mentioned
earlier, we don't have high-computing applications running on our systems.
Hence the present capacity of servers is capable of supporting the additional
workstations.
Earmarked IT budgets for 2005-06
Since we intend to migrate to financial and HR packages, and with the
additional 80 to 100 workstations, roughly we might spend Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh
during the present fiscal 2005-06. We might opt for few all-in-one machines if
need be. Now that we have sufficient number of laptops, we don't have any
plans to further invest on them.
Current systems supplier
Being a Bangalore-based company, we deal with BS Unit Infotech, which is a
dealer for Wipro Systems as far as branded machines are concerned. For unbranded
machines, we deal with local assemblers. Since we have opted for MNC laptop
brands, we co-ordinate with the local systems integrators.
Qualities you look in for a supplier
Primarily, we look at the service level setup. For instance, BS Unit
Infotech has been dealing with Wipro for more than 15 years now. Ever since we
began making use of IT, we have been coordinating with them. Service offering
and timely delivery of the needful is an essential factor. Other qualities
include support and consulting when opting for various solutions suiting
business needs.
