Coral Telecom, manufacturer of telecom equipment, has introduced an integrated voice and data exchange — IRIS
—IVDX. It is an integrated voice and data switch, which will also help in eliminating two different sets of cabling for voice and data networks in corporate enterprises. It is meant for meeting the universal demands in the new world communication.
According to the company, the need for integrating the voice and data switch was required because of the rapid invasion by Internet, which has been instrumental in pioneering the change in the global telecom network.
IRIS-IVDX has been designed to handle data as freely as it would handle the voice traffic. The basic switch would be capable of handling data received and transmitted at various different speeds and would also be capable of bundling these packets for transmission over LAN and / or ATM as the case may be. This functionality would allow free migration of communication channels over the IP protocol keeping pace with the technological growth.
The system is designed on free-port architecture and with distributed power supply and processor on every card. The back plane is based on UTOPIA, HDLC and compact
PCI. This platform is expandable to support up to 43,000 ports. IRIS is a compact 32 port DSP
(DUSLIC) based line card designed to support features like DTMF generation and detection, caller ID generation, polarity reversal, on hook transmission, echo cancellation, message wait lamp and fax/modem Detection. IRIS integrates features like automatic fault diagnostics, software-based automatic gain control and hot stand by and wireless telephony.
