Counterfeit Lipi Data printer ribbon cartridges seized

A huge haul of counterfeit Lipi Data Systems computer printer ribbon cartridges that are used in dot matrix printers were recovered when a raid was conducted in the Fort area of
Mumbai. Police officers, along with Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR) jointly conducted the raid on 23rd April, 2005.

Novelty Stationary, a manufacturer and retailer Chetana Stationary stores were raided by the police. Hundreds of packed cartridges, holograms, MRP stickers, outer boxes and wrapping material were seized from the manufacturing unit. Police seized a good number of cartridges that were being sold as original to customers from the retail shops. The total value of the seized goods is estimated to at over Rs two
lakh, thirty seven thousand. 

The owner of Novelty Stationary, Belji Karansi Patel and an employee Deepak Bhagawanji Kanavi and the owner of Chetana Stationary stores Narshigella Patel have been arrested. They are also booked under sections 51 / 52-A/ 63 and 68 of the copyrights act 1957. A case has been booked at MRA Marg Police Station under FIR #981/ 05. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Sr Police Inspector, Sadashiv
Patil. Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Naik is the investigating officer for the case. Further investigations are on.
