Job Profile

In an industry where products and technologies change fast, a major task for
Nita Mehta in the company is to constantly identify future products for
development. By doing so, she is in a position to maintain consistency in
introducing new product. Mehta maintains senior level interaction with all the
major customers. She plans product launches and overlook sales and marketing for
the same. A crucial aspect in determining the price competitiveness of any
product is procurement of the raw material. She is directly involved in this
process. She also keeps a track of the production planning in order to maintain
appropriate stock. Apart from this, the routine general office administration,
accounts, finance planning etc are other areas that she looks after.

Background

After doing her MSc in Biotechnology, Mehta joined Bharat Serums and Vaccines as
a Research Scientist in 1986-87. She worked there for two years. In 1987 she got
married, after which she joined her husband's family business of chemical
processing of leather and textiles. They also started another firm in
biotechnology, which did not continue for long. Her husband started Telenet in
1990. Mehta joined as Executive Director and in 2000 she became the MD.

Challenges

For Mehta keeping abreast with technological changes and acting swiftly to meet
market needs and requirements is the biggest challenge. She tries her best to
maintain good market shares in the highly competitive and price conscious
networking industry. It is her aim to establish the brand Telenet as one of the
leading CPE and networking manufacturers of India. Mehta ensures that her
company offers production of high quality products at a reasonable price.

Strengths

Mehta's intuitive skill facilitates her in dealing any situation with
confidence. Her ability to take calculated risks has helped her company to be
ahead of her competitors. Apart from meticulous planning and execution she is
also involved in not only building relationships but also constantly nurturing
them. 

Family

Her husband - Sunil, is the Chairman of Telenet. He is currently the CEO of
Eisodus Networks, a company incubated in IIT Bombay, in the field of access
network solutions. Mehta has a 15 year-old daughter studying in college. Both
her husband and daughter are very supportive and understanding. For her, family
duties and responsibilities are of utmost importance and one of the top
priorities in her life.

Hobbies

Mehta loves dancing and is currently learning music. She is an avid reader and
regularly practices yoga.

Future Plans

She wants to make Telenet a total networking and telecom products company with
her in-house R&D as the main strength area. Mehta also plans to diversify
into automotive and medical diagnostic electronics. She aims to take Telenet to
greater heights where people would love to work together for the company and
their personal growth and be happy with what they are doing.
