D-Link India enters UPS and inverter market

Networking major, D-Link India is getting into the UPS and inverter market,
with its Digi-Power range of products, targeted at SOHO and SME segments.
Prabodh Vyas, Director- Sales and Marketing, D-Link India stated, "D-Link
India is looking at leveraging its dominant channel presence, its reach in
corporate IT space, its service support presence and strong brand image to offer
to its customers a quality product."

On asked why D-Link decided to get into the UPS and inverter business,
Prabodh explained that the company had already made its presence felt in
products like dial-up modems, motherboards, graphic cards and ODD products.
"Getting into this new product line was a natural extension of our existing
business."

"Some of the unique features of Digi-Power UPS are its light weight,
remote monitoring with software, LCD screen (on selected models), two-year
warranty, robust service infrastructure and a wide spectrum (600VA -
10KV)," said Shekar Kulkarni, GM—Sales, D-Link India.

Digi-Power UPS are available in two variants depending upon the output
waveform-modified Sinewave UPS (ML series) and Sine Wave UPS (SL series). It
has introduced four models-DGU-600ML (600VA Modified Sine), DGU-1000ML (1000VA
Modified Sine), DGU-1000SL (1000VA Pure Sine Wave), DGU-2000SL (2000 VA Pure
Sine Wave) and two models of Digi-Power Inverters DGI-500M (500VA) and DGI-1000M
(1000 VA).

The products are priced between Rs 2,000 for the low-end UPS to up to Rs
8,000 for the 1KVA inverter.

According to an IDC report, the Indian UPS market size is roughly Rs 1,000
crore. D-Link hopes to capture at least 20% of the marketshare in the next two
years. "We will leverage on our extensive support network to push these
products," said Prabodh.  Till a year ago, the company had four
service centers, which it has increased to 12 recently. It will add eight more
centers in the next three months.
