Datacraft unveiled a storage solution for digital video security surveillance (DVSS), an Internet Protocol (IP)-based security monitoring solution. DVSS enables organizations to centrally monitor and manage consolidated video feeds from multiple closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in various locations via a corporate Wide Area Network (WAN). It increases the success of customers' security initiatives, conveniently and cost-effectively, by transforming video images into actionable intelligence mission-critical information that an organization needs to effectively protect people, property and assets.

"CCTVs are commonly used to monitor premises and unmanned remote locations, record activities for security purposes, and serve as a deterrent against crime," said Peter Williams, Head, Solutions Development Group of Datacraft. The solution collects video images virtually anywhere, even in difficult-to-wire areas, such as borders and waterways - networks all the CCTV cameras and supports the central control and management of an entire surveillance network from a standard office workstation. It incorporates a central Storage Area Network repository for all digital video records and provides immediate access to any archived footage that is stored within the organization's IP network.

In partnership with Verint Systems, DVSS also provides advanced analytics. These automatically identify significant movements and unusual behavior. The system's software provides trigger alerts on security breaches, from motion-related alerts - such as cars stopping in 'no stopping zones' or moving the wrong way down a one-way street - to abandoned objects or unattended luggage in the monitored areas. It can also count people, for example, in areas where overcrowding may signify trouble, detect object removal, which can be used to monitor high-value assets such as art exhibits, and indicate if a camera has been 'blinded' or moved.

Peter also said, "Our scalable solution lowers operational costs by reducing number of security personnel needed to monitor a large number camera positions. It also allows for an increased number of security cameras without a corresponding increase in manpower requirements."

The solution also interfaces with other security and business systems from access control and alarm systems to point-of-sale, cargo handling, gaming and inventory control. It then pushes actionable intelligence in real time, directly to the people who need it - even to wireless devices carried by security staff.
