Continuing its direct marketing strategy- Dell Computers has launched a line of servers targeted towards the enterprise segment. Christened
'PowerEdge', the server range aims to provide building blocks for consolidation,
databases, enterprise applications and computing.
The range of the products unveiled include the dual processor PowerEdge 1800, 1850, 2800, 2850 servers and Open Manage 4 systems management
software, which are the foundation of Dell's vision for the scalable enterprise.
“These servers feature Intel Xeon processors with extended memory 64-bit technology. The new standards in Power Edge servers and Dell open manage
system management software make them easier to update and fix from remote locations, common systems design and tools across Dell platforms,” claimed
GM at Dell Computer India Pvt Ltd Dinesh Pai.
Server model 1850 is priced at Rs 1.4 lakh while model 2850 is priced at Rs 1.8 lakh for the Indian markets. “With more than 40,000 server installations
in the country in the enterprise segment, we have a market share of 11 percent. We want to grow our market share considerably and issues like
service delivery and open standards will make us take the lead from others,” Pai added.
With a team of more than 120 people, Dell is one of the very few companies, which has continued its direct marketing
approach throughout the globe. “We sincerely believe that direct marketing has given us a clear lead in terms
of better understanding our customers. Moreover, our customers do not pay anything extra as there are no reseller margins involved
with us,” Pai informed.
At present, the company has a direct support infrastructure of 20 professionals based at different locations all across the
country and moving forward, the company plans to increase it sizably as it ventures into
smaller geographical locations within the country.
