TrulyMadly users will now be able to use Yoti to verify their personal details, such as name and age, which will boost the Trust Score on their profile, giving other daters assurance that the profile is genuine. This is Yoti’s first partnership in India after launching its services in the country earlier this month

While online dating has grown over recent years, many people have fallen victim to dating fraud and romance scams which involve time, money and emotional distress. Daters are required to trust the people they meet online are who they claim to be.

Yet fake profiles on dating and matrimony sites are not uncommon, and 86% of adults do not trust the identity of the people they meet on dating sites1. This results in risks of identity theft, financial fraud and catfishing. Yoti is working to help daters and dating sites tackle these issues and make online encounters safer.

TrulyMadly determines the Trust Score of the user depending upon their willingness to share their social media profiles, phone numbers, photo ID documents like passport and PAN card, and employment records like salary slips and offer letters. However, most users are uncomfortable sharing a copy of their photo ID, leading to a lower Trust Score. With Yoti, users will no longer have to submit a scan of their photo ID. By connecting their Yoti profile with TrulyMadly, the company will automatically receive the dater’s verified details; boosting their Trust Score.

Rahul Kumar, Co-founder at TrulyMadly said, “Our partnership with Yoti makes us the first dating app in India that enables daters to build trust by sharing their verified digital identity with others. Creating a community of daters with verified profiles has been a key pursuit for us. We want our users to feel safe and secure while dating online. We’re delighted to be working with Yoti to offer our users a way to verify their details and increase their Trust Score, giving other daters greater peace of mind about their potential matches.”

Speaking about the TrulyMadly partnership, Madhu Nori, International Commercial Director of Yoti explained “It’s too easy to be tricked or scammed by somebody using a false identity or hiding behind a fake online profile. Yoti offers everyone a free, simple and secure way to know exactly who they are meeting online - helping to prevent fake profiles and make digital interactions safer. We’re really excited to be working with TrulyMadly to give daters peace of mind about who they’re meeting.”

“This partnership is a great step in our journey; enabling Indians to safely use their digital identities for a range of activities, including online dating and other peer to peer transactions. Verified digital identities will help businesses and individuals get things done in a simple and secure way. We look forward to partnering with like-minded businesses in India that value their customers’ privacy and aim to build a safe ecosystem for them.” Madhu added.

Safer dating ambassador Anna Rowe, who is calling for catfishing to be made illegal, said, “Yoti has made personal verification very simple and easy. As far as meeting strangers in our everyday lives, it’s never going to stop, so having that reassurance that the other person is ‘real’ and also the deterrent it will be to those who are less than honest, can only be a benefit.” Anna Rowe is a famous victim of catfishing who was duped by a man for almost a year using the picture of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. She is now running a petition to make catfishing illegal.
