UAE-based M K Group would be setting up a Rs 500 crore e-city based on the Dubai Internet City at Kochi, intended to
provide mass employment for Kerala 's educated unemployed in several ITES segments including back office, call
center and business process outsourcing activities.
Yousuf Ali, chief of M K Group announced on the concluding day of the two-day Global Investor's Meet (GIM) at Kochi that
UAE nationals and non-resident Indians (NRIs) would be investing in the new project for which
a new investment company would be floated. "The Kerala Government would act as a facilitator for the project and a feasibility study would be
undertaken soon in this regard," says PK Kunhalikutty, Kerala Minister for Industry &
IT.
The new e-city would be set up in 200 acres of land in a prime location in the State's commercial capital. The e-city project is
the result of over five months of discussions and interaction initiated by Kerala Government
delegation during its visit to UAE, which was led by Kunhalikutty.
"Low cost of setting up business, excellent infrastructure, manpower availability, excellent climate are some of the reasons for
conceptualizing such a project in the state," says Ali.
According to Kunhalikutty, the e-city would be different from a conventional technology park and would have facilities that
would provide direct and indirect employment to a wide cross-section of society
