New Update

Sanath Babu the brains behind the success story of Sri Durga Enterprises had seen rougher days initially when he stepped into business. His hardwork and belief put the heart of the company in the right place. Today after the tie up with ‘Karma’ their principal in Singapore every deal he comes across is an easy game ball for him.

It is not often that one travels down two boats in a steam of distributor businesses. Sanath Babu has a lot to talk about his journey, which started way back in the year 1995. Sanath has been managing Memory place and Sri Durga Enterprises successfully. Memory place deals with Transcend Memory module.

Born in the year 1967, Sanath opened his eyes to see the colorful saree business that their family was identified for. He grew up with money and business on his mind. His intention for venturing into business was scooting around until he joined BMS College of Engineering to do his Engineering degree in electronics and Telecommunications. During his studies he realized that the essence of his business was in the IT market. He passed out in the year 1987. Sanath is the only technical graduate in the family and became the first one to work out of their family trade. He joined Wipro as a Field Engineer during the same year.

After his working tenure of eight years Sanath was promoted as the specialist for apple products. With the market exposure and the technical knowledge that he had acquired at work he felt that the time was ripe to strike the market. He quit Wipro in the year 1995 and started Sri Durga Enterprises with a Rs. 2 Lakh investment. Sanath was greeted with rough responses and steady competition from the market for as long as 2 years. Today Sri Durga Enterprises talks proudly about its last years turnover of Rs. 38 Crore. Sanath together with his team projects to achieve Rs. 72-75 Crore for the current year. "The Rs. 75 Crore target includes the turnover of Memory Place also, and till now we are on power with the projection," saysSanath.

Sanath felt it hard to buy products as he was new in the market and as Sri Durga Enterprises was not much talked about. Their initial business associates were reluctant to give their products on credit and investing huge amount on products was just too far for Sanath to reach. "It was like a review of my patience and my hardwork, which I proved and managed to establish myself and proved my dedication to the resellers market," saysSanath.

It was a tough job for Sanath to get the resellers trust him. Though he was financially strong, it took almost two years of hardwork to build up his identity and status in the market. Sanath and his brother Nanjunda who were the first dual to start Sri Durga Enterprises with only one staff as their helping hand started their daily routine from 8 in the morning until 11 in the evening.

Their hard effort and long working hours showed fruitfulness when Karma, distributor of Seagate harddisk, approached them with a proposition to join hands in promoting Seagate harddisk in India. Sanath saw this tie up to be an opportunity to prove his worth overseas. Seagate recognizing the outstanding performance in building up their brand name in the market and increasing their revenue in India honored them with an award in the year 1999. This was a turning point for Sanath and Sri Durga Enterprises; Sanath soon became the topper to sell Seagate harddisk in India.

Sri Durga Enterprises today deals with anything starting from a mouse pad to harddisk motherboards etc., an ideal one-stop-solution-shop with branches in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Its product ranges from Seagate harddisk, quantum, and dlink networking products. And is also the sole authorized dealer for Sun Microsystems spare parts apart from Wipro in India. (Sanath got his Sun Microsystems certificate through Wipro). Apart from these he also import Intel CPUs. Sanath maintains a minimum stock of about 2500 units of CPUs and about 3500 units of harddisk in his office.

Sanath feels a pinch in his business because of the carriers who buy goods from abroad and sell them at a much lesser price. Carriers are something similar to the grey market. These products are not guaranteed, not billed and are often duplicates.

When not at work Sanath prefers to be with his wife and his four year old daughter or take off to a tension free spot with his friends.

Besides deals and building up their customer base for their business, Sanath and Nanjunda are working on their new project to build their own memory module with a brand name of ‘Memory Place’. They are also having talks with companies in Taiwan to expand their business activities.

Sanath’s dream of expanding Sri Durga Enterprises activities to become a one-stop-solution in the entire IT Industry in India.
