Because of lockdown, many resellers and partners are losing their business. Julian John, CEO, Zion Technologies, talks about how his Apple Mobile Value Added Service Provider business is going down.

Tell us the trajectory of your apple business from the beginning till now

Julian - We are third party apple repair solution providers by the name of ‘Zion Technologies. We started in 2008 seeing the gap in the provision of good quality component level apple repairs .In those days we used to have the apple iPhone 2G which was just launched and many people were breaking the displays and were going through a lot of trauma for paying huge amounts to get their iPphone 2G with broken displays to get replaced by Apple .In fact in those days there was no option of replacing the broken displays so we perfected the art of replacing the glasses on the Iphone 2G displays, where we were offering much cheaper rates and also a better warranty timeline than the principal company .

Then we branched off into iPods, iPads, Apple laptops, iMacs etc. In fact, we have brought streamlined repair practices in an otherwise unorganised sector. There have been umpteen players in the market but in terms of warranty, quality and craftsmanship, majority of them fail.

Data security being a very important subject, we get iPhones for repairs from many data sensitive companies where data secrecy is highly important. Seeing our professionalism and work quality, we were featured on the NDTV tech show

What are the difficulties in becoming an Apple mobile seller?

Julian - We are not into selling any apple products but only in repairs. It's very difficult to make a name and maintain that name which is always a challenge for any business but more so for a technical repair business because there are many problems in the gadget to manage like making sure of the component quality and workmanship.

However, we maintained our quality and warranty and after sales, so the word of mouth got around which worked better than any medium of advertising and so referrals started coming in .

What are the striking features of your work which make you a preferred choice with your customers?

Julian - As I said earlier, the trust factor has played a very important role in our success.

People just leave the expensive Apple stuff knowing fully well that we will work to the best of our abilities and they will not be let down. Even they know the fact that after the repairs too they will be looked after if any such exigency occurs. The complete faith and trust in us and the fact that we not only meet but surpass the clients' expectations is what keeps us in business .

How is your business doing in 2020-2021? 

We are literally slugging along. It's just that during Corona time it's just living off our savings and hoping for a better tomorrow.
