In order to maximize on the in the IT market of South Bengal, Burdwan-based
Expert Systems is all set to expand its operation. The company is opening a
branch in Baharampur shortly. According to Tapas Sarkar, Director, Expert
Systems, Burdwan along with its nearby towns is becoming a high growth area for
IT. "What is very exciting is the behavior of the users who are now
demanding better products and also better buying environment," said Sarkar.
"This trend has given rise to a couple of changes in the Burdwan
hinterland. One is the growing tendency of the customers to buy branded products
and secondly, the demand for a good retail buying experience. "Both these
factors are driving the growth of retail business in the region," he added.

Although, the company does not have any immediate plan to open another retail
showroom apart from its existing one, Sarkar is open for any good proposal.
"In case we find a suitable proposition, we would love to open more retail
outlets. Retail seems to be an area where we are betting high in places like,
Baharampur, Bolpur, Shantiniketan," he said. The company is planning to
open one more retail showroom in near future in Burdwan. "There are several
modern residential complexes coming up here which will definitely help in
raising the living standard of the local people as well as attract people from
other parts to settle down. Retail buying will also increase as a result,"
he explained.

Meanwhile, Expert has immediate plans to expand its distribution business.
According to Sarkar, Murshidabad is a big district, and Baharampur being the
capital generates good business volume. "Desktop and laptop market is
growing in a big way there. We sell over 100 laptops and desktops of HP and
Compaq alone per month, which shows the growth potential of this market. Sitting
in Burdwan, it is becoming difficult for us to manage the growth there," he
added. Opening a branch at Baharampur will not only help the company to control
the Murshidabad market, but also reach out to other markets like, Malda, Farakka.
The boost in laptop sale will automatically enhance the demand for accessories,
opening a new avenue for the local partners. Looking at this trend, even we have
plans to grow our focus in this segment," concluded Sarkar.
