In a daring incident, miscreants decamped with not one or two but five Compaq laptops, right from the parking lot at Nehru Place on Saturday evening at around 8:30 pm. It was the evening of 21st April that Kuldeep Bansal from Micro Peripherals parked his vehicle at the Nehru Place parking lot only to be robbed of five laptops worth more than Rs 1,1,8000.
“I had taken these laptops from my distributor, Redington India and was about to deliver these to a client of mine. It was business as usual for me, as I usually park my vehicle at Nehru Place parking lot. But on Saturday night when I returned back at around 8:30 pm, I saw a duplicate key at the car's ignition. I immediately thought that someone has tried to take my car. It is only when I reached my destination that I realized that all the laptops are gone from the back seat of my car. The culprits were smart enough to leave the casings behind so that I do not realize the theft so early,” informed, a shocked Kuldeep Bansal from Micro Peripherals.
While this incident is shocking and the stolen laptops might well be sold to someone else in the regional market of Delhi, channel people based at Nehru Place are expressing their shock on this incidence as well.
“This is indeed a shocking incident. We all park our cars at this Nehru Place parking lot. The responsibility surely lies with the parking people, but we also need to make sure that we do not put so costly valuables inside the car while we are away for one or two hours,” explained, JP Modi, CEO at Nehru Place based MC Modi & Company.Â
Needle of suspicionÂ
Demoralized by this loss, Kuldeep Bansal is now trying to get the FIR registered at the Nehru Place police station as soon as possible and strongly feels that someone from within his company is responsible for this act.
“I have already given this as a complaint to the police and very soon they are going to register a FIR. It does not look to me like a handywork of an outsider. Certainly there are more than one person involved in this act and I think that someone from within my company has done it. They will surely try to resell these laptops in the market and that is why I am urging people to make note of these laptop serial numbers and inform the police, if they come across these products,” he added.Â
Micro Peripherals started its operations about six months back and is a fairly new entrant on the IT map of New Delhi. At present, the company is employing four people and the police is likely to questions these employees once the case of theft gets registered at the Nehru Place police station.Â
The incident also shows that even the parking lots are not safe and proper precautionary measures are needed to keep a tab on such incidents. It also shows the reluctance of people involved in the parking business, who are responsible for keeping a watch on cars and other vehicles.Â
“I have spoken to the parking people and they say that they are not responsible for any theft after 8:15 pm. At this point of time I would not say whether parking people are involved in this or not but certainly there is a lot of ignorance involved on their front, which resulted in this theft,” Bansal added.
Following are the serial numbers for the missing laptops:
Compaq 2384: 1) CNF610175C; 2) CNF611194Z; 3) CNF6111B5NÂ
Compaq 2623: 1) CNF6130VJS; 2) CNF6130VGG
