What is the first thing we do before we visit a restaurant? We always check for reviews, of course. Often, good restaurants are hidden away in some interior parts of the city. I had a great experience, as I went to these five restaurants, which are mentioned below. I personally feel that they deserve to brought into the limelight. They are affordable, no-fuss, and always deliver great food. Here are the must try restaurants for you:-

New Aliah Restaurant – Ask anyone about their favourite place of having biryani and kababs? Chances are quite low, that the people of Kolkata would tell you about the New Aliah Restaurant. Situated in the busy area of Esplanade, New Aliah has been serving tasty Mughlai dishes since the 1920s. Their mutton and chicken biryani, murgh mussallam, tangdi and afghani kabab and mutton stew have been long relished by passer-bys, young people and office-going people. It is one of the few restaurants offering cheap prices for their signature food items. However, this place has not been a prime choice for many heading for biryani and kababs, atleast, due to its lesser prominence.

6 Ballygunge Place – This authentic Bengali dining place has been a constant hit, not only among the Bengalis, but also non-Bengalis. The name of this restaurant, comes from a thakurbari (mansion) of a wealthy man, who lived in Ballygunge, a posh area in the southern fringes of Kolkata. He was fond of cooking and preparing Bengali dishes; and hence he opened the first branch in Kolkata in 2003. If you visit this place, try out these signature dishes like - kosha mangsho, aloor dum loochi, shorshe and bhaapa illish, dim bhuna, mangsher ghughni, suthki maach, sukto dalna and muri ghanta. Shanghai Salsa – This is one unique restaurant in India, where you get Mexican, Continental and fast food items in all one umbrella. The surroundings are good and crowded, as the dining place, itself sits in the middle of the bustling Tinialli Market in Hatigarh, located in the northern part of Guwahati. The name, might confuse some, but the delicacies served, will leave your tongues tasting for more. Prominent dishes like teriyaki pork ribs, spinach chicken, baked fish normady, cajun grilled mutton with rice, taco burritos and fajitas and BBQ Hakka with noodles, have such a seductive taste, that it quickly melts inside your mouth. These items are always served with various types of sauces. The staff, ambience and the pricing rates are in the higher levels, and is a hit among college and school-going students mainly. The popular desserts like mojito coke float and ice cream honey chips are amazingly succulent, just like the main course. Overall, it is a good dine in experience and authentic enough, of not making it completely like a pure Assamese plate flavouring.
